BSTFLEX Stainless Steel Band-Type Flange Guards are removable metal covers that fit around the outer perimeter of a bolted flange connection. The open-sided band construction provides an alternative to a full-enclosure housing with annular side panels. A stainless steel latch secures the band and allows it to be opened for removal during scheduled inspection and maintenance.
The illustrated design features a formed stainless steel body, edge tabs and a latch closure. Each inquiry is reviewed against the flange dimensions, installation clearance, material requirements and intended protective function.
Part of our Flange & Valve Protection Covers range, these band-type guards are specified by connection geometry rather than nominal pipe size alone.
The curved band surrounds the outside of the flange assembly. Unlike a full-enclosure flange cover, this design does not include annular end panels around the pipe openings. Band diameter and width define the area covered, so both dimensions must suit the actual connection.
The reference design includes formed tabs along the band edges. The final tab arrangement and surrounding clearance should be checked against the flange profile, bolt positions and installation drawing.
The latch can be released to open and remove the cover when the connection has been made safe for inspection. The guard is fitted externally; it is not inserted between flange faces and does not replace the gasket or flange bolting.

| Application Information | Process medium, operating temperature, operating pressure and required protective function |
Identify the stainless steel grade required by your project when requesting a quotation. Requirements for the band body, latch and any additional components should be stated together so that the complete assembly can be reviewed against the purchasing specification.
Requests for a particular grade, including 316 stainless steel, require written confirmation before ordering. Surface appearance alone should not be used to identify the material. Include any material documentation or traceability requirements with the initial inquiry.
A nominal pipe size does not fully describe the outside dimensions of a bolted flange assembly. To specify a metal flange guard, provide the flange standard and a drawing or measured dimensions of the connection in its assembled condition.
| Information to Provide | What It Helps Establish |
|---|---|
| Flange Standard, Nominal Size and Pressure Designation | The flange series and dimensional reference |
| Flange Outside Diameter | The required band diameter and fit around the connection |
| Assembled Connection Width | The band width and intended coverage area |
| Bolt and Nut Projections | Potential interference with the band, tabs or closure |
| Pipe Outside Diameter and Nearby Obstructions | Space available for positioning, opening and removing the guard |
| Front and Side Photographs | Installation details that may not appear on a standard flange drawing |
For American, German, Japanese or other flange standards, identify the exact standard rather than the country alone. Where the drawing differs from the installed connection, provide the actual measurements for review.
Project inquiries include flange protection for chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical facilities and power-plant piping. Steam and molten-salt duties require the process medium and operating conditions to be identified before a guard configuration is selected.
For valve installations, specify each flanged connection separately and show the valve body, handle or actuator in the photographs. A band fitted around one flange does not provide a complete enclosure for the valve body or operating mechanism.
For spray-shield applications: state the required protective performance and any testing requirements in the inquiry. An external metal band must not be assumed to provide validated pressure diffusion, mist suppression or sealed containment. Any internal mesh or additional protective construction must be explicitly included in the agreed specification.
Have authorized personnel fit the guard under the site's safe-work procedures, including isolation, depressurization and cooling where required. Do not approach an active leak to install or adjust a cover.
Check the guard against the connection drawing, open the band and position it around the specified flange assembly. Verify clearance around the bolts and surrounding equipment before engaging the latch. The band should not be forced into position or distorted to compensate for an incorrect size.
During scheduled maintenance, inspect the band, tabs and closure for damage, deformation or corrosion before considering reuse. Maintain any inspection, drainage or venting provisions required by the approved installation.
This product is an external guard, not a pressure-retaining repair clamp. It does not repair a failed gasket, damaged flange or defective bolted connection.
A band-type guard surrounds the outside perimeter of the flange assembly and leaves the sides open. A full-enclosure design adds annular side panels around the pipe openings. The two constructions have different coverage geometries and should be selected according to the installation requirements.
Do not assume interchangeability. The flange standard, pressure designation, outside diameter and assembled width must be checked. Send the actual connection dimensions when requesting a quotation.
No. The flange pressure designation identifies the piping connection. It does not establish the protective performance of an external guard. Any required spray-shield testing must be specified separately for the complete guard configuration.
The metal band construction described here is not a removable insulation jacket. For heat retention and insulated valve coverage, see our removable valve insulation covers. Specify thermal insulation and spray protection as separate requirements.
Provide the flange drawing, process medium, normal and maximum operating conditions, required coverage and performance criteria. Identify any internal construction, inspection records or testing documentation required by the project so that the proposed assembly can be reviewed before purchase.
Send BSTFLEX your flange standard, size, pressure designation, measured dimensions, preferred material grade and required quantity. Include photographs or drawings showing the available installation space, together with the process medium, temperature and pressure using clearly stated units.
For projects covering multiple connections, provide a flange schedule with a separate identification number for each size or installation type. Include your required delivery date and any purchasing, inspection or documentation requirements.
